The Third Wheel Band is an American roots group from New York City led by Ryan Langlois and Steph Allen. Since the beginning in 2010, the band has made a name for themselves with their infectious style of feel-good old timey music. With influences ranging from bluegrass and country, to folk and talking blues, to early jazz and rock 'n' roll their sound digs deep into the past. Their original tunes carry on the traditions of the American Folk songs they include in their repertoire which they lovingly provide a fresh and modern twist to.

Every performance features a rotating guest musician (or “Third Wheel” if you will) on stage. Some of the past ‘Third Wheels’ have included Zack Bruce, Doug Goldstein, Sam Barnes, and Greg Barresi, who was an original founding member of the band. Known for their energetic live shows, the band has been described by The Huffington Post as "impossible not to dance to" and "New York's best hidden bluegrass treasure."

The group has released two full length albums to date. The first album,“On Willow Street” (2010) was recorded in Hoboken, NJ and features a rowdy and upbeat performance of mostly original tunes. Following that was “Family Album” (2012) which was recorded in Brooklyn, NY and includes a collection of traditional folk and children’s songs that are great for both kids and adults alike.

About

In 2013, the band teamed up with the app company “Mibblio” to develop their song “I like ‘em Sunny Side Up” into an illustrated story-song for the iPad. Inside the app kids can read and play along to a number of story-songs, or “mibblets”, using fun touch screen instruments. The song was recorded in Brooklyn, NY and features Marty Beller (They Might Be Giants) on drums.
